Section Movement Preferences

icebear   October 22nd, 2011 5:53a.m.

I have a few lists that I'd like to behave differently with respect to adding. Essentially:

- ChinesePod, Misc lists, Novel vocab - would like these to continue with new sections continuously, including when I add a new section (e.g. a new ChinesePod lesson).

- Textbooks - would like these to stop at the end of each section [chapter] so that I'm not getting ahead of the studies in the book.

The problem is these two preferences are determined by a single option in the account study preferences (not at the list level). At the moment, to avoid getting ahead in the textbook, I've set it to stop at the end of each section, but that means I need to go into the ChinesePod list (for example) each time I add a new section and set that list to start studying again, and select the new section to start from (I'm not sure if that last point is related, or has to do with that the fact that I finish all sections, which sets the list to studied [not adding], before adding a new one in that list).

Am I missing some preference that would address this? As it is the process isn't TOO inconvenient, but it would be nice for it to be a little more automated...

Thanks.

I have the same problem, but for me it is not a very big deal if I get a couple of characters ahead in the textbook. 一回事, right?

Funny you should mention; the plan is to move the section movement setting from the single option in the account settings to the list-specific study settings soon, for precisely the use case you describe.

Not sure when Scott will get to it, but it's coming up!

Guys, you're doing a great job. Can we get a list of all the work in progress as well as future updates. Maybe we could even vote on various features to give them more priority?

Thanks, bennyboyk. We don't want to give a list of features in progress because it's pretty hard to tell what we're going to be working on soon, and we're often wrong. And the full list of what we have planned eventually would be hundreds of items long. There are other reasons, too, but in general we're going to try sticking with just releasing new things to the beta site when they're ready for testing, and answering something like "We're trying to do that soon" or "We want to do that some day" or "I don't think so" when asked about specific features.

In any case, if you want to know what I'm doing (as opposed to what Scott and George ar working on), it's basically just the Skritter iOS app at this point until it's finished!
