adjusting study settings (parts)

Bohan   February 22nd, 2011 2:10a.m.

Alright I now that since a couple of weeks ago, if we want to go through the review queue (or vocab list) and only do "writing", we have to click on our usernames at top and then adjust settings that way.

So why does it even still show "Study Settings" in the center of the settings page that we get to by clicking on the round tools symbol at the top right of a study page ? We can't click on any of that stuff anymore to adjust anything, so what's the point of it even being there.

It's sort of like a tease to have that there, because it makes me wish I can use that to change my settings with that, but I can't.

*omg , I misspelled "know". Maybe I should quit Chinese and just concentrate on English ? (shaking my head in embarrassment)

Choose your long-term settings on the account language settings page and use the practice page settings to toggle your daily practice sessions.

@ Thomas Okay, I just chose my long-term settings, and now I'm studying a new custom list. If I want to do the writing first (without other parts), will changing the setting from "Keep adding new words" to "Review these parts only" affect which words get added to the review queue ?

If every time I make a new vocab list and cram it part-by-part, will that mean none of those characters/words/tones will get added to the review queue ?

Thanks a lot for the reply !!!

When you turn the temporary parts on, no words will be added. You'll have to use the long-term settings in the account settings if you want to study writings first, then when you've added all the writings, go back and re-enable the other parts, and also reset the list to the beginning (on the list's page, click "Study Settings" and change it back to adding, from the first section). Then it'll go through it again and add the missing parts.

@Nick okay, so if I want to make sure all the items in my lists get added to the review queue, and I want to the part-by-part thing, should I just always adjust settings by going to the long-term settings ? It's seems like that would be easier than the other way, am I right ?

Yes. The temporary parts settings is only for reviewing, not for adding new words.

@ Nick okay, thanks!
